I walked the narrow streets of Rupea for the first time in 2005. Then, the fortress was hidden form our sight by the shrubbery that had engulfed its haughty walls and towers. At that time a project was started to rebuild and restore this beautiful monument. Today Rupea fortress, that had started its existence more than 100 years ago, regained its beauty and glow. It was first built by the Dacians and named Rumidava; then it was conquered by the Romans, later passed under Habsburg and the Austro-Hungarian empire rule and during the modern times it was left to ruin by the ignorance of the people. At present Rupea reminds us of ancient and medieval times and is ready to tell us the stories of its tumultuous past.
